D'Granja

In Los Bajos, a picturesque town of Tyrolean origin located between Frutillar and Quilanto on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, lies D'Granja, an artisanal cheese factory born seven years ago from a touching family story. The project began when one of Paulina's children was allergic to cow's milk protein, leading her to discover the world of goat dairy and develop a deep passion for crafting artisanal cheeses.

In this unique corner of the Los Lagos region, where two small churches—one Lutheran and one Catholic—along with a fire station and a German settlers' cemetery form part of the cultural landscape, Saanen goats graze freely in "El Alto de Los Bajos," creating scenes reminiscent of the Swiss Alps. This freedom not only improves animal welfare but also enriches the milk with superior nutritional properties, such as higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids.

Within its 5 hectares stands an impressive, restored colonial house over 100 years old, which shares space with the cheese factory where both goat (DCabra) and cow (DVaca) cheeses are made. The latter uses fresh milk from a neighbor, processed the same day it is milked. Each cheese produced represents an absolute commitment to traditional methods, using only fresh milk, natural rennet, and specific ferments for each type of cheese.

This magical place, where you can enjoy friendly goats, chickens, donkeys, dogs, and cats, also offers a wonderful view of Lake Llanquihue and the Osorno, Calbuco, and Puntiagudo volcanoes. A family project where Paulina and her children keep the cheesemaking tradition alive, sharing their passion at every local fair they attend, offering high-quality products with distinctive flavors and aromas that only true craftsmanship can achieve.
